Air Quality Protocols

Air Quality Protocols

The North Fork Pool Park and Recreation District provides safe, enjoyable recreational opportunities for residents and guests to the North Fork Valley.  The following protocols will be used to monitor and manage activities at NFPPRD facilities regarding air quality.

NFPPRD will use the Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA) Air Quality Index (AQI) as its objective measure for air quality. Monitoring will be taken from Weather Underground and The Weather Channel online resources.

When referring to Sensitive Groups NFPPRD uses the EPA’s criteria which includes people with heart and lung disease, respiratory ailments, pregnancy, children, teens and older adults (65+).

Patron participation in NFPPRD managed activities is voluntary. Any individual with concerns about the safety of air quality is encouraged to make participation decisions in their own best interest. People in Sensitive Groups participating in activities managed by NFPPRD staff should identify themselves to staff for monitoring purposes.

Employees of NFPPRD who are in Sensitive Groups need to inform their manager for monitoring purposes. Every attempt will be made to accommodate employees in Sensitive Groups wishing to remain at work with decreasing air quality. Employees may be dismissed if an  acceptable accommodation is not available. Employees may request dismissal with a written rationale and approval from their supervisor.

*Availability of activities at the North Fork Pool is limited by the ability to provide a safe environment.  The term capacity is used to define the number of patriots allowed admittance to the pool. NFPPRD utilizes The American Red Cross guidance of 25 swimmers per guard on duty. During events of declining air quality employees may be dismissed, limiting our capacity.
